Brutalities in Islam

The tortured body of Ms. Zohreh Eizadi, 25, student of Medical Science University in Tehran, who had a major role in the recent anti dictatorship demonstrations of the Beheshti University Students was found on the yard of the university on Friday May 6th, 94. She was kidnapped on May 5th, tortured and killed. Reported by Daily Salam newspaper, May 10, 94.

An American woman, Mary Jones, a 35 year old Texan, mother of two was sentenced to 80 lashes and 10,000 rials ($5.70) fine for drunken behavior in public. Two weeks later she was suspected of spying. Reported by Reuter, May 8, 94.

Professor Ali Akbar Saidi-Sirjani, an outstanding Iranian poet, writer, and scholar disappeared on March 14, 94 in Tehran, Iran. It is revealed in the local press that he had been arrested on the charges of drug trafficking, on his way home. Mr. Saidi-Sirjani, a sixty three year old married man and father of three daughters, who had fought for freedom of opinion and expression and the fairness of laws throughout his adult life, always within the bounds of law and order was pronounced dead on November 27th 94, by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On February 25, 94, Mr. Faizolah Makhobat a 78 year old Jewish Rabbi was hanged in Tehran. Prior to his execution he was imprisoned and tortured for more than a year. He was flogged with heavy bundles of electrical cables, burnd and was chained in dark, small single cell for most of the time. His eyes were removed and finally he was executed for the charges of spying for the state of Israel and in retaliation to the mass killing in Hebron Mosque in Jerusalem.

Bishop Haik Hovespian Mehr, the 48 years old General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God and President of Council of Protestant Churches in Iran vanished in Tehran on January 19, 94 three days after the release of Rev. Mehdi Dibaj from prison. Government authorities claimed that Bishop Haik died of multiple stab wounds. Bishop Haik spoke openly about the violation of religious freedom in Iran and had sent an invitation to Professor Galindo-Pohl, UN Special Representative for Human Rights to visit Iran to meet with Protestant Ministers and government officials to fully investigate the issues.
